There Is a Clearing
Some conversations are transactions. Others are thresholds. You already know the difference.
I wrote a poem this morning.
Not because I had time to. Because it arrived, and I’ve learned - after many years of ignoring arrivals - to write things down when they come.
It’s called Sacred Space. I’ll share it with you in a moment.
But first, I want to tell you what it’s pointing at. Because the poem is the door, and this is the room behind it.
There is a kind of conversation most of us have never had.
Not because we haven’t tried. Not because we aren’t intelligent, or open-minded, or even genuinely curious about growth.
But because no one ever showed us the threshold.
We walk into conversations - coaching sessions, leadership meetings, even conversations with ourselves at 2am - carrying our armor. Our frameworks. Our excellent questions that are actually already answers, disguised as curiosity.
We perform openness. We simulate readiness. And we walk out largely unchanged, wondering why nothing quite shifts.
I’ve seen this pattern in thousands of conversations across six continents. I’ve lived it in my own life. And I’ve spent years trying to name what’s missing.
What’s missing is the Sacred Moment.
A Sacred Moment is not created by the topic.
It’s not created by the credentials of the person across from you. It’s not created by how expensive the retreat was, or how prestigious the program, or how many testimonials the coach has.
It is created by one thing only:
A mutual, wordless agreement that this conversation has permission to change someone.
Not inform. Not challenge. Not motivate.
Change.
That is the threshold. And most people - without knowing it - arrive with their hand on the door and never cross.
I want to tell you what lives on the other side.
On the other side, questions don’t come with predetermined answers folded inside them. Silence isn’t managed - it’s inhabited. Something lands in you, and you can feel it land, and so can the person across from you.
You leave slightly different than you walked in.
Not fixed. Not enlightened. Just - moved. Just - opened. Just - one degree less defended than you were an hour ago.
That’s the whole game. That one degree is everything.
The wisdom I carry in this work - it didn’t come from a curriculum.
It came from sixteen years of recovery. From a thousand hours of Heidegger read slowly, at the edge of confusion. From five hundred distinctions forged in the space between suffering and something finally making sense.
That is not a product I’m selling you. It is a transmission. And a transmission requires something specific from the receiver:
Not expertise. Not money. Not even a lot of time.
Just the willingness to say yes - really yes - to being changed.
I wrote this poem this morning about the clearing I’m always trying to create.
Read it slowly. It’s not long. But it means something specific.
Sacred Space
Every conversation can meet in a beautiful clearing. A clearing gives room and space to breathe. No longer the need to machete your way to food.
This clearing for an artist or leader (the same thing) Should be sacred. Honored. Held as a dignified space, even as it is invented.
When people meet in this clearing, they take off their shoes as a sign of dignifying the space; They lay down their arms; They break bread; They listen and talk in soft voices.
This is my world; my clearing that I invite you to. Please take off your shoes; Please observe the silence between our words.
Let the clearing dictate us and our peace. Let the clearing direct saying our piece. Let the shouldering of our burdens be borne by all.
For in the clearing there is no left or right; No North - No South. We are brothers and sisters - family in truth. Albeit, at least for that moment. But let that moment reign - I ask gently but firmly.
I don’t need to tell you to avoid vomiting and kicking up a fuss. A clearing - and living inside one - is a sign of growth and maturity. Will you join me there?

Here is the thing about a clearing.
You don’t build it. You don’t earn it. You don’t arrive at it by thinking harder or trying more.
You enter it by putting something down.
The armor. The preloaded answer. The subtle, honorable plan to stay just this side of actually being changed.
The Noble Disguises I’ve spent years mapping - they are all, at their root, sophisticated strategies for showing up as if ready. Without crossing.
And I understand them. I lived most of them. Some I still carry, lighter now but present.
What I’m inviting you to is not perfection. It is not the absence of armor.
It is simply the moment you decide the armor isn’t worth more than what’s on the other side of the door.
If you’re reading this and feeling something - a recognition, a pull, a quiet yes somewhere in your chest - that is the inkling I am always speaking to.
Not to the part of you that manages and optimizes and stays safe.
To the part that has been waiting, for longer than you probably remember, for a conversation that actually goes somewhere.
That clearing exists. I’ve spent my life building it.
Come with your shoes off.
If you’re ready to step into the clearing - a Discovery Session is where we begin. 30 minutes. Real conversation. The link is below.
